If you haven’t been listening to art news these past couple of weeks, man have you missed out on some drama!
Fortunately, Tyler Green has most of the info and related links to the Brandeis Garage Sale, I mean, Rose Art Museum Fiasco.
There’s also the recent WTW exhibiting artist, Emily Jacir at SFMOMA. Again, MAN has you covered.
Closer to home and possibly tamer, the Cisneros Collection of Latin American Art is considering finding a permanent home. Since the Blanton inaugurated Geometry of Hope before it went to New York, I thought of the scholarship of Latin American Art in Texas and the veiled rivalry between Austin & Houston. Glasstire noticed the same thing.
I saw Cisneros foundation director, Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro in Austin this past Sunday and was oh so tempted to ask how favorable the Blanton was looking. But I didn’t.

The Blanton has now received work by Teresita Fernandez and El Anatsui. [via]
UPDATE:
“..Museum people fight nature everyday…”
“Why is this painting in the museum? Don’t you think it’s ugly?”
“Chances are, the museum people who decide what gets to be put into the museum probably don’t have anything in common with you.”
“Blank walls are good so that the visitors won’t have to deal with so much ‘context’ or ‘history’…”

I’ll tell you ’bout what I sees.
