So, I wanted to see the new exhibit at Lora Reynolds Gallery, and I wanted my 5-year-old daughter to see it, too. We went to see it yesterday. Turns out, it was the opening reception for the new exhibit. Place was packed with insider art community types. Not many 5-year-olds.
I liked most of the work, but not some of it. My daughter liked some of the work, but not most of it. That’s alright, because that’s the idea, isn’t it? We didn’t stay long. After all, she’s only 5, and they weren’t serving juice boxes.
Before we left, we were both studying a smart piece near the door, part video, part doll. Intriguing. And then somebody introduces himself to us, and he tells us he’s one of the curators for the show, and then he goes on to explain the piece we’re looking at. He says the artist is a professor from MIT, and he also thinks it’s very cool. My daughter asks him some questions, and he answers her plainly and honestly. That’s the absolute shit, people.
The absolute shit.
I’ll tell you ’bout what I sees.
