A Breadbox and a Mug, Each Depicted In a Sculpture and Photography – Lora Reynolds
Haven’t seen it yet. Will update The show was light with the materials. This had a better understanding of 3D rendering than Shawn Smith at dBerman. I liked it. NOT BAD
12Buy – Artspoken
Didn’t make it out.
Snarko Artwork – AFG
Didn’t go to see.
Double Vision – Davis Gallery
The founders of Austin Figurative Gallery started out by painting streetscapes side by side. Its a feel good show on a personal level. Chappell said it best himself, “I’ve grown so much, but I’m still doing the same thing.” Knowing Chappell for some time now and watching Ohlerking building his clubhouse, it was good to see them exhibiting work in a “real” gallery. The Chronicle review was appropriate although I lean towards Chappell’s earthy and more painterly palette. I’m happy for them, but the show itself failed to take me beyond a commercial exhibit. BAD
Alice In Wonderland – Wally Workman
I will see it in 2008 before it comes down. Didn’t make it.
hyperspective – MASS gallery
I didn’t know what to expect. But I was disappointed nonetheless. I get that the distorted shapes were a matter of perspective, it just didn’t do much. The drawings on the wall looked like no more than design patterns, yet were the most exciting part of the show. BAD
Mari Akira, Ellen Bartel, & AFG Butoh Dance – AFG
Didn’t see it.
The Anatomy of Melancholy – Blanton
Haven’t gone yet. Will update next year.
Jack King Paintings – AFG
Didn’t go out and see anything.
I’ll tell you ’bout what I sees.
