From Revolution to Renaissance – Mexic-Arte Museum
Besides the fact that this show took up three quarters of the year (WTF), it wasn’t terrible. As a survey show it hit on some necessary points and had some pretty images to look at. But I’m still hung up on the fact that this museum is sputtering along. Especially as it is now competing with the MACC. barely a NOT BAD
The Elizabeth Portraits – DBerman
Your girlfriend can be the hottest creature on the planet and I will still be uncomfortable looking at naked pictures of her. That being said, I couldn’t find time to swing by the show.
The Nebulae Project – MASS Gallery
I learned about it like four hours before it occurred.
Between the Body and the Soul – La Pena
I didn’t make it out to this one.
CANTANKERus – Else Madsen Gallery
A group show by the people that publish Cantanker magazine. Nothing too far out. Could have used a stronger theme to unify the work other than most of it was paper based. NOT BAD
Twitterbox – The Opera House
I really, really wanted to go to this : [
Now and Tomorrow 4 – CRL
I think I missed this year’s.
Thickly Settled – Okay Mountain
The work in the gallery was very intriguing. It looked like centuries old layers of dust, but upon intimate inspection, some form of fabric is revealed. Before I could come up with some ideas and references, I sees the drawings in the other room. Like Basim Magdy, they trip me up. They didn’t necessarily seem related. Architectural lines, overlapped like multiple silkscreen prints on a single sheet. I had trouble reconciling the two forms. But they both interested me. GOOD
Vision Riot – Pump Project Gallery
I arrived on time, but there was very little art ready. There was to be live painting and a fusion of video and music. There still wasn’t much up when I left. BAD
I’ll tell you ’bout what I sees.
