I’m not one for gambling (or gossip for that matter), but with the Texas Prize being awarded this Friday, I thought it would be fun to speculate on the winner. I know Glasstire already had a poll asking the same question. So I’m making mine a two-parter, with space for elaboration.
1) Who do you think will win?
I’m leaning toward Katrina Moorhead. Her work was the most conceptually challenging and articulately presented. When all of the other works speak of identity, hers defies such an easy categorization.
2) Who would you choose to win?
I would choose Margarita Cabrera. When faced with a chance to win a prize, does she use the strong work she has been recognized for? No. She uses a new strategy. That’s a pretty gutsy move.
And let me say right now, “I still don’t believe that Bill Davenport’s pinata contains real U.S. money.” Call me cynical, pessimistic, whatever. I look at that thing and can not imagine it being filled with cash. Chocolate coins maybe, but not cash.
I’d appreciate your thoughts. Who knows, you may even convince me to vote third-party!
I’ll tell you ’bout what I sees.
