“setting” for A. Pomodoro – Blanton
There’s concrete slabs, big pieces of driftwood and golden paperweights. Makes me think of a jumbled pile of deconstructed office desk and park bench. Call me stupid, but I wasn’t feeling it. The disconnect was too far for me to enjoy. BAD
Date Night – Gallery Lombardi
The photos looked lame on Lombardi’s website and I thought the show was one night only. Going the gallery that night was a totally different experience. The work was a strong group of photos and they were up all week! I wish I would have mentioned it sooner. I recognized some of the attendees as (former?) design students from UT. They’re pretty handy with the mechanical image maker! The installation had something kinda lacking, but I was surprised by what was hanging. GREAT
Coconuts – Art Palace
There sure was a lot of Mexicans and legions of their spawn at the opening. Seriously, it looked like each artist had about six family members each. That’s two dozen people, plus the healthy sized attendance the venue usually has, its impressive. And mine weren’t the only rugrats running around. La Familia’s got yo’ back ese! The curatorial statement/ press release bogged down my vision. Went by later to see with fresh eyes and a clear head. The work was GOOD?
Upstairs, Downstairs – Shady Tree
Oh shit, I missed this show. They’re gonna think I don’t like them.
Fulfill Me – Bolm Studio
Didn’t make it here either. I blame the primo!
I’ll tell you ’bout what I sees.
And I guess what I didn’t sees, too!
