I for one, refuse to read statements and accompanying text or talking to the artist before looking at art. I try going into a show as someone who has little to no knowledge of art history. This way I can ask more questions as to what is going on. And even after looking at the work, I'd rather not talk about it. I like having it soak in and get archived so I can feel what associations it might have.
But no bs from me. I have a decent library of images stored in my mind to reference after my initial observations of a piece. I guess I just want others to ask more questions about what is presented to them. And don't ask me what I think about your work! Hah!
I'll tell you 'bout what I sees.
