So much for building up my savings account or buying a new computer. I went to Houston to the Lawndale Art Center and listened to "Consider the Alternative." Harrell Fletcher's work blew me away! Michelle Grabner was a little distant, like academic or uber-organized, but that's okay. she was cool. In fact, I received my audio transcript of "Post Post-Studio" from the Block Museum this weekend. Ms. Grabner was a part of that panel discussion as well. I'm listening to it right now! Maybe I'll put some notes on both of these here. In fact I will.
People (yes, multiple persons, not just you) who know who I am are starting to refer to me as a critic. They are wink-wink, nudge-nudging me and hoping I won't blast them. Am I critically analyzing art shows being exhibited in Austin? Yes, but I believe everyone is doing that. The only difference is that I am presenting my observations on this semi-public forum. I don't mind being called a critic, but keep in mind that I don't intend to make or break a career. I am just trying to instigate a more robust industry scene in town.
I'll tell you 'bout what I hears and sees.
