Slugfest gallery is a small but cozy space. It was perfect for viewing this set of mezzotints by Francisco Souto. These prints were freakin' huge! The largest was about 12" by 12" give or take. In mezzotint sizing that is unbelievable. I've seen larger prints, but man, that is a lot of rocking. The imagery was very nice. Excellent draftsmanship.
There was some self-referential, symbolic type of imagery going on in the prints. The artist working on the plate with a rocker and shots of what I assume is his studio late at night took center stage. There were also pendulum and clock elements and star maps that spoke to me about the passing of time and the cosmos. Thats what happens when you repeat an action over and over. Thats what happens when you repeat an action over and over. woah
This show was NOT BAD. The prints were beautiful, but I didn't find much to contemplate.
I'll tell you 'bout what I sees.
