SXSW has come and gone. So has this show. At least this show was up for a week. I didn’t feel so rushed to get down and check it out.
When I did go, I was worried about it looking like the bulletin board at Waterloo. I guess I’m still not entirely clear on what the gigposter community is, but this particular group from that community was okay by me. As I walk into the gallery I am relieved that there are no poster sized rock show flyers. Instead there are a lot of designy illustrations. I was attracted to the ones that were more comic book influenced. I saw alot of serigraphy and ink or acrylic on panel. There were many artists and as many different styles.
This show could have easily crapped out, but the quality of the work was good. The content didn’t try to save the world or anything, but they did a job and did it well. Having a show like this during Southby is better than having nothing or worse, crap. Maybe someone can rally the forces to organize something during this time for next year *ahem* Texas Biennial *ahem* and add visual art to the music and film festival.
This show was NOT BAD.
I’ll tell you ’bout what I sees.
