October 2007 SeeSawS – Wks 1 & 2

Art Matters Austin – Art Alliance Austin
Unconventional works from members of Open Doors Collective, traditional painting and photography, then some video and prints. It was a good roundup, but the space is essentially a hallway. Should I really give it the consideration I give galleries? NOT BAD
Patterns of Peru and Texas – [...]

June 2007 SeeSawS – Wks 4 & 5

Perspectivas – Volitant
The show was disappointingly thin. It was very outstretched and thus incomprehensible. BAD
6.07 Works – SVT Gallery
Very dreamy work. The paper work was quiet and the paintings immediately loud. Both were cryptic and I wish I could break into them more. They were just missing that element [...]

June 2007 SeeSawS – Wk 1

From Revolution to Renaissance – Mexic-Arte Museum
Besides the fact that this show took up three quarters of the year (WTF), it wasn’t terrible. As a survey show it hit on some necessary points and had some pretty images to look at. But I’m still hung up on the fact that this museum is [...]

Apr 2007 SeeSaws – Wks 1 & 2

Senior Art Exhibit – SEU Fine Arts Gallery
Didn’t make this one. So close, yet so far.

Yellow Labyrinth – WTW
Labyrinth is a misnomer. There was no confusion or complication. Its like a piazza, very open. The multitude of doorways may have suggested a variety of choices, but since the space is not expansive [...]

Feb 2007 SeeSaws – Wk 3

Queen of Peace – Volitant
Oy! Where to begin, where to begin? Sensory overload. I know the gallery is a large space, but that doesn’t mean you’ve got to fill it with everything you’ve got. After seeing everything once, my brain kinda just shut down. I didn’t even break it down into [...]

They Do Exist!

I found it!
It was so wonderful and such a brief encounter that I was starting to believe I dreamt it all. Upon revisiting the site, military officials tell me no such thing ever occurred.
But now I have proof.
(Really, it should have been up longer than a week)
I’ll tell you ’bout what I sees.

Wotta Revoltin’ Development!

First, too much fun was had experiencing “Stalemate of the Boozefox“. It is fuckin’ awesome. The gallery will be open whenever Blue Theater is open, so go check it out!
I almost forgot what a great space the Huntington gallery is. Part two of this year’s UT MFA shows at the rechristened Visual [...]

Nov SeeSaws – Wk 2 & Wk 3 pt 1

DISCLAIMER: My senses are off this time of year. If I had to choose, I’d say I side with the Green Team of Christmas (Grinch, Scrooge, Mouse King) as opposed to the Red Team (Santa, Frosty, Rudolph). Take that as you will.
L.L.S.P. – Gallery 3
This show was tricky. I had a hard time trying to [...]

Oct SeeSaws – Week 2

Los 4 Amigos – LaPena
I missed it. I went on the last day and the work was already down : (
Dia De Los Muertos – Mexic-Arte
No museum visits for me this month.
Black Sun-Green Flamingo – Blanton
Haven’t made it down. I trust I’ll make before, January?
Queen Takes All: A Song For Paula – [...]

July SeeSaws – Wk 2

belowthesurface:adifferentorder – Dberman
This show surprised me. The work had a lot of energy for a two person show. Ms. Moore had eclectic objects that sometimes felt like rumaging through grandma’s attic. Mr. Dell had gouging marks on what looked like putty or clay. Both made work that looked exciting, but had an air of safe [...]
