November 2007 SeeSawS – Wks 3 & 4

Gail Busch/Dale Neese/Louis Katz – SEU Fine Art Gallery
Didn’t see it.
An Introduction to Mountain Making – Okay Mountain
Another year another show. The artists’ works are easy to identify. This year there’s new work with Ms. Sinks. NOT BAD
The Golem – Slugfest
It was a good set of prints. The drawings were frenetic. [...]

September 2007 SeeSawS – Wks 3 & 4

Surprise Me – Gallery Lombardi
Not the usual fair for the gallery. Half of the work was very colorful. I looked at those longer. NOT BAD
Embracing Chaos: YLA12 – MACC/ Mexic-Arte
I was disappointed. Not by the art. I mean, look at where the artists’ banners where placed at Mexic-Arte. Surely I’m [...]

August 2007 SeeSawS – Wks 1 & 2

Radical Nautical – Gallery Lombardi
Wowzers. There was a lot of people. It was a fun show and was glad to see the variety of work. The only thing I could possibly complain ’bout is that it was illustrator/designer heavy. But then again, where else will I see that work? GOOD
Suddenly [...]

June 2007 SeeSawS – Wks 4 & 5

Perspectivas – Volitant
The show was disappointingly thin. It was very outstretched and thus incomprehensible. BAD
6.07 Works – SVT Gallery
Very dreamy work. The paper work was quiet and the paintings immediately loud. Both were cryptic and I wish I could break into them more. They were just missing that element [...]

Mar 2007 SeeSaws – Wk 1

Take Two – Gallery 3 at the CO-OP
At first glance Christa Mares and Matt Rebholz are an odd pairing. But, both artists have a strong physicality in each of their mediums. The playfulness of material and subtle narratives give the work an almost fairytale/ fable perspective. GOOD maybe even GREAT
TEXAS BIENNIAL [...]

Jan 2007 SeeSaws – Wks 2 & 3a

Retreat – WTW
I wrote a review in the Chronicle that pretty much covered what I was thinking. The jaggedy shapes were interesting, but they lost all mystique when I found out they were images from caverns. So all of those lines weren’t responses or tools to disrupt the image, they were actual contours. [...]

Texas Biennial 2007 – DAC

You may have read some of my opinions in the Chronicle lately. You may also have noticed, I got together with my “co-workers” to discuss the Texas Biennial. With the first installment out and the second and third coming out today, I decided to whet your appetite with a small fraction of my [...]

But Master! Does Not The Blind Man Need Glasses?

SWORD OF OMENS!
GIVE ME SITES BEYOND SIGHT!
This is dedicated to you Mr. Paul Slocum.
I forgot to get a shot of Emilie Duval (video) and Lily Hanson, but this guy got Lily Hanson.
I’ll tell you ’bout what I sees.

Los Cuatro Vientos – DAC

This show was organized by La Pena. I’m assuming because of their landlord problems, they opted to hold the show at the DAC. Or maybe this show was just too big for their space. Lots of familiar names, such as, Santa Barraza, Sam Coronado and Liliana Wilson with some fresh names like [...]

Dec SeeSaws – Wk 1, Wk 2 & Wk 3

DISCLAIMER: My senses are off this time of year. If I had to choose, I’d say I side with the Green Team of Christmas (Grinch, Scrooge, Mouse King) as opposed to the Red Team (Santa, Frosty, Rudolph). Take that as you will.
