No Restraint – Bolm Studios
The paintings shared the same general strategies. Cool colors threatened by white paint erasing the image and a tilted composition. For the most part, this composition feels like it was solved by rotating a photograph to the desired dynamic angle. With the human figure in the image, it becomes mundane. Except for New York #2 where the figures are slightly abstracted and you become more concerned with the movement of the composition and colors. Nice try, but one painting does not make a good show. BAD
Untitled In Blue – Wally Workman Gallery
I missed the show, but caught some of the work still hanging around the gallery.
The Common Deceit of Reality (No American Talent 3) – Okay Mountain
I like installations. And I liked what was shown. That is until I saw the drawings. Then I really questioned my initial reaction of the show. The craftsmanship did not match up with the elaboration of the installations’ narratives. NOT BAD
Identity Theft! – Else Madsen Gallery
I missed this show. I circle the block three times. If I can’t find parking, I go home.
ACC Student Art Exhibit – DAC
I can’t remember clearly if I saw this show. I could be mixing my memory from the previous year. So I won’t say anything.
Join Us For A Communist Party! – Gallery Lombardi
Missed this show.
Distant Relative – Gallery 3 at the Co-op
For “sculpture” students, there are no objects present. They do a good job of creating space though. Mapping it out? NOT BAD
Adelaide Fontana – La Pena
This sounded really interesting and I can’t believe I didn’t make to any of the performances!
French 77 – Studio 107
Found out too late. Didn’t make this.
Grand Opening – Austin Figurative Gallery
I’m pretty sure I attended the grand opening, but I’ve been there so many times that I know what would have been there. Either way, I want to give props for the creation of community. NOT BAD
Ahead of Their Time – Arthouse
I’m surprised twice now by this show. Surprised that high schoolers are making this work. Nothing groundbreaking, but necessary. NOT BAD
I’ll tell you ’bout what I sees.
