Wow.
With all that’s going on in Chicago, the less than enthusiastic reactions to both of the TCA State Artists of the Year and the events of the Hunting Prize, it makes me wonder if artists will stand up for themselves.
Well, here in Austin you have the opportunity to do something and contribute to our cultural community. I was emailed the fifth Create Austin newsletter, but it hasn’t shown up on the website yet. So here’s a direct link to what you can do. Suggest an idea to one of the Taskforces.
UPDATE: Newsletter 5 is posted.
I’ll tell you ’bout what I sees.

I agree with the reactions to the TCA State Artists, and the problems with the Hunting prize. (Though not the clumsy and fanatical expression of those problems)
It’s doubtful artists will ever stand up for themselves, too many toes on too many bridges…
So that’s why bridges smell like cheese! haha
Well how about standing up for each other? That’s what it means when dealing with public policy, right?
‘What’s good for us, is good for you and me.’
We have no power when it comes to private money (you either apply for it or not), but dealing with government, our representatives, is something we have to engage. We have to tell them whether or not something is working, right?
